About SmartMoneyTools

We build India's most accurate, easy-to-use personal finance calculators — and explain the formulas behind them in plain English. Free, private, and built by people who actually use them.

Our story

SmartMoneyTools was started in 2026 out of one simple frustration: most financial calculators on the Indian internet are either inaccurate, hidden behind sign-ups, plastered with pop-ups, or built for a foreign tax system. A SIP planner that ignores Indian inflation, an EMI calculator that doesn't handle prepayments, a tax tool stuck on last year's slabs — none of these help you make a real decision.

So we set out to build a single, trustworthy library of India-first financial tools: from SIP and FIRE planners to Income Tax FY 2026-27, PPF, EPF, NPS, SCSS, home loan EMI, HRA exemption, and dozens more. Every calculator is paired with a short explanation of the formula, realistic India-specific assumptions, and FAQs that answer the questions a first-time investor actually has.

Today, the site hosts 75+ calculators across investing, taxes, loans, retirement and salary planning, plus 30+ in-depth guides on personal finance topics relevant to Indian households.

Our mission

To give every Indian household a clear, honest look at the numbers behind their money decisions — without selling them anything, without storing their data, and without pretending we are a SEBI registered investment advisor.

Accuracy

Formulas validated against scheme documents, RBI/SEBI guidelines and the latest Finance Act. Updated for FY 2026-27.

Privacy

All calculations run in your browser. We never store inputs, require sign-ups, or sell your data.

Clarity

Every tool ships with the formula, worked examples, and FAQs — so you understand the number, not just see it.

India-first

INR, Indian inflation, Indian tax slabs and Indian scheme rates by default — not retro-fitted from US tools.

Editorial standards

  • Source-first writing. Tax slabs come from the latest Finance Act, scheme rates from official Government of India notifications, and market assumptions from long-term historical data — not from social media speculation.
  • Plain English, no jargon. If a term needs explaining, we explain it inline.
  • Updated when the law changes. Tax calculators are revised within days of a Budget announcement. Scheme calculators are revised within the same quarter that rates change.
  • Corrections welcome. If you spot an error, write to us — we credit readers who report substantive issues in the article footer.

How we make money

SmartMoneyTools is free for everyone. To keep it that way, we run discreet display advertising through networks such as Google AdSense, and we may occasionally publish clearly-labelled affiliate or sponsored content. Editorial decisions — what we build, what we recommend, what we warn against — are never influenced by advertisers. See our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy for the full picture.

What we don't do

  • We do not give personalised investment, tax or legal advice.
  • We do not sell mutual funds, insurance, loans or any financial product.
  • We do not collect or store your calculator inputs on a server.
  • We do not show pop-ups, paywalls or notifications.
